Lucy Rebecca Hall, soprano, hails from Nottinghamshire, England. She currently studies on the opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a full scholarship, under the tutelage of Professor Susan McCulloch. In 2010 Lucy was awarded a First Class Honours Degree in Music from the Guildhall along with the accolade of winning the Dove Memorial Prize for being the highest marked graduate of 2010, across any discipline, the Ann Wyburd Prize for the best lieder performed in final recitals and the Concert Recital Diploma. She repeated this success in her Masters by being awarded the highest mark ever given for a Masters Final Recital.
Lucy has had the privilege of performing in venues such as The Royal Albert Hall for the Songs of Praise Big Party aired on New Years Eve 2006, The Barbican Centre and Bridgewater Hall and has worked with orchestras such as The Halle, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and in 2011 Lucy was proud to make her debut with the London Symphony Orchestra in the Barbican Hall performing Nielsen's Symphony No. 3 under the baton of Sir Colin Davis. She then rejoined them in April 2012 singing the role of the bridesmaid in Der Freischutz alongside Christine Brewer and Sally Matthews and has been invited back to sing Flora in Turn of the Screw next April.
Lucy's awards include a Sybil Tutton Award, a Countess of Munster Award, she was the 2011 winner of the highest Simon Fletcher Charitable Trust Award and was a recipient of a Richard Stapley Award. She is also a prize winner in many national music festivals and recently won the Song Prize in the Mozart Singing Competition and a Finalist Prize in the Handel Singing Competition. Previously she has been awarded the Southwell Choral Society Bursary and an
Ian Fleming award administered by the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
Operatic experience includes Barbarina, Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart) British Youth Opera, 2011, Cis Albert Herring (Britten) GSMD 2010, Lucia The Rape of Lucretia (Britten) Grimeborn Opera Festival 2010, Third Nymph Euridice (Oliver) British Youth Opera 2010. Lucy has also sang excerpts from the roles Ilia Idomeneo, Martha Martha, Tytania Midsummer Nights Dream (Britten) Nanetta Falstaff (Verdi), Norina Don Pasquale (Donizetti), Giuletta I Capuleti e I Montecchi (Bellini) and Sandrina La Finta Giardiniera (Mozart) in GSMD Scenes.
Lucy has many exciting things planned for the future; plans include covering the role of Sandrina La Finta Giardiniera for the Festival d'Aix this summer and performing the role on tour in 2013 in Luxembourg and Toulon, a performance tour and recording of the Mozart Requiem for the Festival d'Ambronnay, a tour of Israel performing the role of Michal in Handel's Saul and Aurore in Massenet's Le Portrait de Manon and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro for GSMD Opera. Lucy is particularly thrilled to be joining the Oxford Lieder Festival as a young artist with pianist, Gavin Roberts.
